Windows Server 2022 innovates hybrid integration and management by bridging on-premises Windows Server 2022 environments with Azure Arc and Azure services. Hybrid multicloud capabilities are built in to extend your datacenter, increase efficiency and agility, and maximize existing investments.
Datacenter Azure edition enhances security by adding a new Secured-core server and secure connectivity features. The new Secured-core server enables multi-player security and advanced protection. This includes layers of hardware, firmware, and drivers enhance critical systems security and defense. The secured-core server protects every aspect of your enterprise, from hardware to firmware and virtualization layers.
The updated application platform improves application compatibility and the Windows Container experience with Kubernetes. The application platform is more flexible and scalable for demanding Tier1 applications.
The new Windows Server 2022 Secured-core server minimizes firmware vulnerabilities and advanced malware. It upgrades secure connectivity with SMB encryption. SMB over QUIC with transport layer security (TLS) allows secure data access from edge file servers with no VPN needed. Additional layers of file server and transport security are provided by SMB on-the-fly compression and encrypted HTTPS and MB AES-256. SMB compression compresses data to enable easier application file transfer while transiting a network.
Windows Server 2022 improves Windows Admin Center and adds a new event viewer and gateway proxy support when using Azure. It also reports on the status of Secured-core features. Hotpatch install updates on new Windows Server Azure Virtual Machines (VM) with no reboot required.
Windows Server 2022 features a 30% faster startup time and better performance by reducing Windows Container image size by up to 40%. It also increases scalable capacity in the application platform by supporting 48TB of memory, and 2,048 logical cores running on 62 physical sockets for demanding Tier1 applications.
Unique features of Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Azure not found in the Datacenter and Standard editions include hotpatching, Azure extended network, and SMB over QUIC. Additionally, one server can run unlimited VM Windows Server instances and one Hyper-V host per license. Your unlimited VMs are always kept up to date with minimal downtime by using the cloud. Ideal for running mission-critical workloads.
Additional features are found in Windows Server 2022 Datacenter and not in the Standard Edition. These include a Hyper-V with Shielded Virtual Machines and Host Guardian Hyper-V Support. It also includes a Network Controller.
